They’ve worked together in films earlier, but only in passing. No wonder, then, Preity Zinta is super excited about working with Amitabh Bachchan in Rituparno Ghosh’s ‘The Last Lear’. “My character in ‘Armaan’ was in a coma when Mr Bachchan arrived and in ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, I barely had two scenes with him. So this is my first full-fledged film with him,” she says enthusiastically.
But there’s yet another very talented man Preity is impressed with. She raves about Rituparno. “I haven’t done anything like ‘The Last Lear’ before. But I’m not doing Rituda’s film to be different or because it’s in English. It’s the script that attracted me.”
You would think doing an English film would come easy to this articulate actor, but she reveals she was extremely nervous before leaving for the shoot in Kolkata. “It’s my first film in English. In addition, I was going to work in a city that was absolutely new for me and with a director whose work I had only admired from afar. But I’ve returned from the experience happy and enriched.”
She’s full of praise for her co-stars. “Shefali Shah and Divya Dutta are such amazing actors.
For the three-four days that we were shooting together, we were like a triangle of sisters. And Rituda is such a wonderful movie-maker.”
Admitting she’s made some poor professional decisions in the past, the pretty lass says, “I’m proud of even the worst films I’ve done as they’ve been a part of my journey. But this year I want to do different things. Fortunately, I’ve have ‘Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom’ and a ‘The Last Lear’ by my side.”
While the year hasn’t begun too well for her yet, (what with her dog dying and Suchitra Krishnamoorthy accusing her of having an affair with her husband film-maker Shekhar Kapur!), Preity is being her positive self as usual and promises, “Watch out for a big bang of an announcement soon!”
